Until she started with the Discovery Channel Store in 2004, Ms. Beam seemed to be working her way backwards in the consumer life cycle, from kids to marriage to dating. She started her online career in 1997 as a Producer at Disney.com (kids). There, she produced more than 15 CD-ROMs and coordinated an extensive site redesign in dual versions, Flash and HTML. After Disney, Ms. Beam became Senior Product Manager at WeddingChannel.com (marriage), where she created online gift registry for Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s, and developed many new features and sections such as health & fitness, travel, home improvement, couture fashion and the ability to “try on” gowns with a virtual model. Finally, Ms. Beam did her part for singles everywhere at Match.com (dating), where she worked with Ph.D. psychologists to develop a fun, statistically based interactive relationship quiz. Prior to her work in the Internet industry, Ms. Beam was a professional stage manager for regional and Off-Broadway theatres. She also taught stage management at the University of Virginia and American University. Ms. Beam holds a BA from the University of Virginia and an MPA from Harvard.
